Coaching Philosophy

Kris Olivo’s approach to coaching is built on the belief that Jiu-Jitsu is a vehicle for personal transformation rather than just a combat sport. His philosophy is encapsulated by the motto of his academy: "Come As You Are, Leave As More."

  • Holistic Development: He views training as a tool to build discipline, resilience, and mental toughness that translates off the mats. The goal is to "unlock potential" in every student, whether they are a hobbyist or a professional competitor.
  • Prioritizing Recovery: Distinguishing himself from the traditional "grind" mentality of many fight gyms, Olivo places a heavy emphasis on longevity and recovery. His facility includes amenities like saunas and cold plunges, encouraging students to take care of their bodies as aggressively as they train.
  • Inclusivity & "No Ego" Culture: Olivo enforces a zero-tolerance policy for disrespect, bullying, or "gym enforcer" behavior. He intentionally curates a safe environment for women and beginners, stripping away the intimidation factor often associated with combat sports.
  • Adaptive & Structured: As a coach, he is known for a hands-on, structured curriculum that simplifies complex mechanics. His teaching emphasizes mobility, body awareness, and adaptability, ensuring students understand the why behind the movement, not just the how.
